  • Eat your skincare : la beauté commence-t-elle vraiment dans l'assiette ?
  • Eat your skincare: does beauty really begin on your plate?

    Linda Durante

Lately, an idea has been ubiquitous:
    “You are what you eat.”

In the beauty world, this translates into a clear trend:
    Eat your skincare.

    Eating for beautiful skin.
    Nourishing your skin from within.

The idea is alluring. Almost too much so.

Because while diet plays a real role in skin health, it doesn't explain everything.
And above all, it doesn't replace a consistent approach to skincare.

So, to what extent can we really “eat our skincare”?

Skin, an (imperfect) reflection of what’s within

    Skin is an organ.
And like all organs, it depends on what you provide it with.

    Some links are now well-established:

    – Excess sugar can promote inflammation and glycation (loss of elasticity)
    – Omega-3s support the skin barrier
    – Antioxidants help fight oxidative stress
    – The gut microbiota influences certain conditions like acne or rosacea

    But beware of one thing:
skin is not a perfect mirror.

Two people can eat the same things and have completely different skin.

    Why?
    Genetics, hormones, stress, environment…

    Skin is multifactorial.

The myth of the “miracle superfood”

    Collagen powder.
    Green juices.
    Ginger shots.

The market is full of quick promises.

But the reality is more nuanced:

No single food can transform skin on its own.

What matters is consistency, balance, and above all… time.

Skin doesn't react like an Instagram story.
It doesn't change in 24 hours.

    Nourish vs. Treat

This is where it all comes together.

    Food nourishes.
    Skincare treats.

Eating good fats helps the skin function properly.
But that won't replace a formula capable of:

    – protecting the skin barrier
    – limiting dehydration
    – soothing inflammation
    – acting directly on the skin's surface

    It's a collaboration, not a replacement.

    A smarter approach to beauty

Rather than opposing diet and skincare,
it’s more accurate to see them as two complementary levers.

    Balanced skin relies on:
    – what you eat
    – what you apply
    – how you live (stress, sleep, environment)

    Simplifying doesn't mean neglecting.
It means choosing what truly has an impact.

Where skincare takes its place again

    Even with a perfect diet,
    the skin remains exposed to:

    pollution, UV, climate, oxidative stress…

This is where skincare becomes essential.

At DRTE, we made a simple choice:
to offer a product that supports the skin without overloading it.

A solid skincare product, without added water,
formulated only with ingredients that have a purpose.

    Squalane, plant oils, micro-algae…
to nourish, protect, and maintain skin balance daily.

Because beauty doesn't just start on the plate.
    It's built holistically.

    Conclusion

    Eating better can improve skin.
But that's only part of the equation.

    The real question isn't:
    “Should I eat my skincare?”

    But rather:
“How do I create a balance between what I give my body and what I give my skin?”
